Renata Jonscher-Pludra (mezzo-soprano) was born in Cieszyn, Poland, where she attended music school and studied the piano under professor Danuta Gajdzic-Szewczyk. At the age of twenty she began her professional career as a vocal soloist with the Slask ensemble, continuing her voice training under the tutelage of Professor Janina Kuszyk-Kuszynska. She was subsequently trained by Professors Wohlhuter in Strasbourg and Ablaberdieva in London. her performing career has taken her throughout Europe, from her native Poland to Germany, France, England and Spain. Her performances feature a wide repertoire, ranging from classical and folk to traditional and religious songs. She was named Young Vocalist of the Year in Province of Katowice in 1993, and in 1998 received the Silver Medal of the Republic of Poland for contribution to musical culture. She has performed in numerous radio and television broadcasts and commercial recordings.
